Russian Roulette

For the Dutch awareness campaign on hepatitis C, Mainline developed a game called ‘Russian Roulette.’ A good tool for starting up conversations in different settings and fields of work. By making up their own questions, social workers can bring up sensitive issues in a light-hearted setting. The board game can be ordered via this website, starting September 20 2010.

Research

Mainline and the Schorer Foundation conducted research into MSM (Men who have Sex with Men), substance use and high-risk behaviour. Some of the research questions were: which drugs does this group use and how does their use affect the susceptibility to infectious diseases?

Control It

Research on training possibilities of the working memory for crack cocaine users

In co-operation with the University of Amsterdam and crack cocaine, Mainline is conducting a pilot study on how crack cocaine users can keep their drug use under control by training their working memory. It is hard to keep the use of this drug under control. This leads to huge problems for individual substance users and society as a whole. As yet, no effective intervention exists.

Working memory training has the potential to support users in controlling the use of crack cocaine. Scientific research has shown that by training their working memory, users are better able to control their behavioural problems. The training focuses on how automatic processes influence alcohol and drug use; and thereby helps to moderate the use of these substances. The pilot study examines whether working memory training is an effective form of intervention that can be further developed and offered to crack cocaine users in the form of a computer game.
