Russian Roulette

For the Dutch awareness campaign on hepatitis C, Mainline developed a game called ‘Russian Roulette.’ A good tool for starting up conversations in different settings and fields of work. By making up their own questions, social workers can bring up sensitive issues in a light-hearted setting. The board game can be ordered via this website, starting September 20 2010.

Research

Mainline and the Schorer Foundation conducted research into MSM (Men who have Sex with Men), substance use and high-risk behaviour. Some of the research questions were: which drugs does this group use and how does their use affect the susceptibility to infectious diseases?

Alcohol and Methadone

Recommendations for the development of a methadone guideline

The Netherlands lacks a clear and consistent policy regarding the provision of methadone to alcohol users. ´Recommendations for the development of a methadone guideline´ is an advice with specific recommendations for the development and implementation of an alcohol and methadone guideline.

The advice has been written for professionals working in methadone services. Subjects being treated are among others what do when an intoxicated person comes to receive methadone  The lack of a consistent guideline sometimes causes problems between substance users and professionals, and creates uncertainty for the parties concerned. The recommendation consists situations based on practice examples. Three scenarios have been worked out to illustrate how substance users can respond to different approaches.

Through this advice, Mainline wants to stimulate the need to offer regular care for substance users. The advice offers practical recommendations for the development of a guideline for workers. In most cases, the best results are achieved by seeking a solution together.
