Harm reduction is based on the principle that every substance user has the ability to intervene in his or her use. Every substance user also has the ability to unlock, strengthen and develop this potential.

Africa

In December 2009 Mainline researched the living circumstances of drug users in the Kenian cities of Nairobi and Mombassa. Unfortunately there is insufficient attention for harm reduction and the rights of drug users, most of whom smoke heroin.

Cambodia

Since 2006 Mainline has supported the civil society organisation, Friends International, which tries to help street children, users and former drug users in Cambodia. The organisation offers drug users, former drug users and street children - and in some cases even their parents - food, information, medical care and practical training. The revenue that is generated from the work after the practical training is completed, is donated to suffering families. To offer more extensive support, Friends International works together with organisations like Mith Samlanh, the Youth Network in Khmer, the Sun & Moon Organization and M’lop Tapang.
